HOMECOMING

Asbury United Methodist Church celebrated Homecoming on Sunday, August 16.

The speaker for the 10:30 AM worship service was Rev. Jackie Hovis Taylor, who preached at her childhood home church for the first time. Her father, Pervie Hovis, and sister Penny Hovis still attend Asbury.

The Hovis Family - including Jackie's sisters Penny, Janice, and Linda and nephew Josh and his wife - provided special music.
A covered dish meal followed the worship service.

Choir Director Jackie Parsons played the hammer dulcimer to accompany "The Summons" sung by the Asbury Choir.
The Deaf Choir from Long's Chapel UMC in Lake Junaluska interpreted "How Beautiful Is the Body of Christ" sung by Twila Paris.

Carolyn Smith was awarded the 2009 Special Mission Recognition by Asbury UMW president, Faye Lockman.
